The Kamakhya Temple, located on Nilachal hills in Guwahati, Assam, is a major Tantric worship centre dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. It is one of the oldest Shakti Pithas and central to the Ambubachi Mela, celebrating the goddess's menstruation. Originating in the 8th-9th century, the temple evolved architecturally into the Nilachal style. Historically, it was a yoni-worship site patronized by various dynasties, including the Mlecchas, Palas, Kochs, and Ahoms. The temple complex houses shrines of the ten Mahavidyas, with Tripurasundari, Matangi, and Kamala inside the main temple. In 2015, the Supreme Court transferred its management to the Bordeuri Samaj.
